Ahead of its Annual Meeting and Joint Conference with CEIR and Pneurop in Brussels this May, Europump president Vanni Vignoli seems on the EU’s roadmap for industrial assist.

Following its announcements of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it is going to rely quite heavily on industry to ship on the most important challenges confronted by our economies and societies in Europe. This is especially the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and global competitiveness, in addition to the necessity to overcome the disaster provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is largely constructing on the potential of European business to design and produce the building blocks of the dual green and digital transition. At the same time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that does not all the time assist the liberty and suppleness wanted for corporations to develop and compete globally.
The European expertise industries, and particularly our pumps, compressors, taps and valves sectors, have for a very lengthy time considered the enhancement of their international competitiveness inside the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of power effectivity and ecolabel regulations. In parallel, digitalisation has supplied increased opportunities and introduced new challenges, including debates on the appropriate regulatory degree (sharing of commercial information, synthetic intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce international competitors, require that public authorities and trade within the EU work increasingly more intently to design and deploy methods that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will be the subject of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which will convey together key policy makers from the three EU coverage establishments in command of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements enjoyed, and challenges still faced, by these three key sectors of trade.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape across Europe, and indeed the whole world, becomes ever extra complex, the burden on trade only will increase. It subsequently falls to sector particular trade organisations, similar to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on these technical and policy issues most related to their respective sectors. In our explicit enviornment, that relates, in fact, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump associated tools – a huge and important subset of industry, given the width and breadth of pump purposes.
Against this backdrop, one of many main concerns when figuring out the core themes for the joint convention was to take care of a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Indeed, all of the sessions may have a technical theme matching the most applicable UN SDG, and with representation from the European Commission along with technical consultants from industry and/or research institutes, they will every be reflective of the present legislative terrain, as it pertains to pumps and pumping systems within the following key areas:
